Who are the most influential men of 2009?
We generally aren’t intimidated by guys who are 5-foot-6 and 130 pounds, but Manny Pacquiao is a definite exception. This 30-year-old Filipino fighter, currently the IBO and Ring Magazine Light Welterweight champion, recently became the first Asian boxer to win five world titles in five different weight divisions, leading many pundits to label him the greatest pound-for-pound pugilist in boxing history.
Pacquiao’s mastery was especially apparent on May 2, 2009, when he easily knocked out former WBA welterweight world champ Ricky Hatton at a heavily hyped match in Las Vegas. ESPN’s Dan Rafael was one of many journalists who sang Pac-Man’s praises following the fight. "It was almost laughable how easy it was for Pacquiao,” Rafael wrote. "It seems as though there is nothing he can't do."
The Associated Press' Tim Dahlberg was quick to agree. "He didn't just beat Hatton,” . “He didn't just knock him out. He demolished a world-class fighter, and he did it with such precision and ease that the talk afterward wasn't whether Pacquiao is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but whether he might be one of the best ever.”
Pacquiao’s next fight has already been scheduled this November, 2009, currently he is under strict training in baguio city.
